Why Papilio Bespoke Kitchens?

With so many options available to you, why choose Papilio to design and install your bespoke kitchen? We believe in excellence and attention to detail at every stage of the process.

Bespoke. Tailored.
With personality.

Every detail of your kitchen is considered to work perfectly for you. Whether a socket placed in the perfect position for your favourite coffee maker or making sure that the flow of the room suits your daily routine, Papilio are skilled in designing kitchens as individual as the people using them.

The primary tasks in a home kitchen are carried out between the cook top, the sink and the refrigerator. These three points and the imaginary lines between them, make up what kitchen experts call the work triangle. The idea is that when these three elements are in close (but not too close) proximity to one other, the kitchen will be easy and efficient to use, cutting down on wasted steps.

Papilio’s approach to kitchen design

With a strong awareness of the continually developing technology market, we strive to include the latest modern appliances in their designs. The Chef’s Kitchen, like many of our projects, includes an intelligent lighting and music system that controls the colour and brightness of the room via a hidden control centre.

“We wanted to create an alternate ambience depending on whether the client would be cooking, dining or relaxing,” explains Matt Prall. By utilising these integrated technologies and centralised hub systems, we are able to streamline processes and overhaul spaces at the touch of a button, presenting clients with a dynamic design that will work with them now and far into the future.

 The Design Process

This would ideally take place in your home, depending upon the location of the project, we have worked with clients as far afield as Belgium via video conferences. We will discuss the finer details of your kitchen in terms of style, and functionality. Any images that you have collected (we find Pinterest to be particularly useful) and any initial ideas for your kitchen no matter how small would be shared at this stage or prior to this first meeting.

We will also carry out an initial survey of the space or work to architectural drawings when available.

From the discussions at the initial consultation Papilio will draw up a concept design and provide you with a guide price for your kitchen, the joinery element of our kitchens would typically start at £20,000 this excludes appliances and worktops.

We do not ask for any commitment from you up to this stage and will present our ideas usually within 3 weeks.

The designs we have created are yours to keep for a small fee of £500, but this is only chargeable if you wish to keep the design and do not proceed with Papilio.

At this stage we are throwing lots of our time into the creation of your kitchen so we ask for a deposit. We will also carryout a full detailed survey of your space. The bespoke nature in which we work enables us to have complete creative flexibility and work to most budgets; the majority of kitchen companies have a very rigidly defined set of cabinet and style parameters.

We now start to get into the detail of your kitchen, trying to extract your requirements and personality into your perfect kitchen. Firstly we dissect the concept design and really start to consider what will make your kitchen perfect for you. We will then work on the layout and may present a few options for you to consider, but will always focus on functionality and your general requirement to determine this.

The next stage is to discuss materials and finishes; this is where we really start to get creative and the excitement grows as your kitchen starts to take shape. We will provide you with a variety of samples and examples of finishes, drawer or door fronts to make this important process more informed.

The last stage is to agree which appliances suit you. We are an official supplier of Miele and so can offer good discounts and all of our clients with a complimentary visit to Miele to work with our personal shopper and try out any appliances that are of interest.

When the design is at a stage that we all consider to be completed we will provide you with a 3D render of the kitchen.

This stage of the design process can take anything from 1-3 months.

When the final design is signed off we will create the detailed furniture drawing package and pass them to manufacturing. Papilio are happy to manage the plumbing and electrical requirements of your project, but if you have a main contractor or you have chosen to manage the other trades yourself, Papilio will also supply you with services drawings.

We generally require 2-3 months to complete the drawing package, manufacture the furniture and install your kitchen, but can deliver at shorter lead times during certain times of the year.

Local craftsmen

Both Matt and Stephen have long careers in different areas of the interiors industry so Papilio have the experience and expertise to work directly with architects to fully utilise every space and offer sound advice in order to bring their vision to life.

We don’t use templates or off-the-shelf designs; all our kitchens are bespoke and built to an exceptional standard with skilled and trusted craftsmen. Our kitchen designs are completely unique and will last a lifetime.

Our personal service

We offer complete interior design services for other rooms from pantry, to library, to media room. With a strong interest in the continuously developing technology market, we strive to include the latest modern appliances in our designs to overhaul spaces at the touch of a button.

Both Matt Prall and Stephen Garland are advocates for kitchen design that promotes entertaining and socialising. “The places that we choose to live, work or relax in shape us as much as we shape them. We believe in transforming environments into inspirational spaces that are both functional and enjoyable” states Prall.
