When it comes to crafting a kitchen that exudes both sophistication and quality, few materials can rival the enduring appeal of marble. Marble is a natural material revered for its distinctive veining and elegant aesthetic, making it an ideal choice for contemporary kitchen design.
Why Choose Marble for Your Kitchen?
Marble has been a popular choice in high-end interior design, offering an organic artistry that no manufactured material can truly replicate. Its unique veining patterns, ranging from subtle whispers to dramatic statements, and its distinctive aesthetics are undoubtedly its biggest draw. By commissioning a reputable bespoke kitchen designer, they will certainly be able to source the best authentic marble for your kitchen.
Marble is highly durable despite being a delicate stone. It can withstand daily use with proper care and maintenance. From countertops and backsplashes to islands and even integrated sinks, marble can be utilised in various ways to create a cohesive and visually stunning design. And without a doubt, the classic natural material will never go out of style.
Here are our three favourite contemporary kitchens that feature marble in their designs.
The Fulham Kitchen in London
The Fulham Kitchen in London features an open-plan space which we designed for multi-functional use. The contemporary kitchen was designed to be both fun and practical, calming and sophisticated for the young family. The design incorporated a beautiful kitchen island for cooking, eating and storage. We sourced extremely rare Grey Grigio di Luna Marble, featuring an excellent iridescent surface dating back approximately 3 million years, for the worktop. We paired the marble with Francesca’s Paints’ eco-friendly, muted grey-blue paint on the cabinet doors and slatted wooden panels under the counter, offering a modern twist.
The North London Kitchen
The North London Kitchen is a project that celebrates materials, particularly marble. We selected a minimalist, nature-inspired colour palette for the bespoke kitchen. The central focal point in our design is the magnificent kitchen island wrapped in stunning Arabescato marble, with its soft, curved edges adding elegance. The marble continues in the bespoke kitchen pantry’s archway entrance, as well as in the floating shelves, worktops, and backsplashes. To create harmony, our design team incorporated oak-finished cabinets, adding warmth and texture, as well as soft, whitewashed walls and deep black-tinted glass on the appliances and tall pantry, all of which complement the feature marble beautifully.
The Victorian Townhouse
The Victorian Townhouse project is another example of a bespoke kitchen design that utilises marble for a contemporary finish. Our brief was to create a light and airy space to display a collection of art and unique pieces of kitchenware from the Marimekko design house. The objective was to transform the existing Victorian-style kitchen into a modern, stylish, and functional space. We utilised American oak veneer to complement the parquet floor and designed a row of floating wall cabinets with reeded glass panels framed in brass. We topped the floor-level cabinetry with cool, subtle natural marble worktops and oversized backsplash. The marble became a focal point, bringing light back into the room and creating an airy feel in the contemporary kitchen.
