Textured Glass Trends in Designer Kitchens

Textured Glass Trends in Designer Kitchens

Using textured glass in designer kitchens is a timeless accent that can complement contemporary and traditional aesthetics. Tactile and nuanced glass is proving to be a versatile and sophisticated feature that elevates designer kitchens to new heights of style and functionality.

Reeded, fluted and ribbed glass is perfect for floating wall cabinets, floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, and can be used for splashbacks and unique features. The beauty of it is that it offers subtlety and depth to a bespoke kitchen design.

One of the primary reasons for the rise of textured glass is its ability to introduce visual intrigue and texture without overwhelming the space. Unlike clear glass, which demands immaculate organisation, textured varieties offer a beautiful balance between display and discretion. Textured glass, especially reeded, fluted and ribbed, softly obscures the contents within, allowing for a hint of what’s inside – a flash of colour or a gentle outline, while gracefully concealing everyday clutter.

While contemporary kitchens often lean towards clean lines, textured glass effortlessly bridges the gap between classic charm and modern minimalism. Reeded glass, with its distinctive vertical ridges, frequently evokes a mid-century modern sensibility while seamlessly fitting into the most cutting-edge designs. Similarly, fluted glass, reminiscent of hand-blown antique glass, brings a touch of romantic nostalgia.

There are additional benefits to textured glass beyond its aesthetic appeal. It works well with most kitchen styles, from modern Scandinavian kitchens to classic country kitchens. It complements natural and painted wood and matches well with metal such as brass and natural and dark steel. It can be sourced in various thicknesses or with safety lamination, and can feature hints of colour ranging from black to amber, green, and rose.

Here are three examples of our recent bespoke kitchen designs utilising textured glass.

For the North London Kitchen, our team designed oak-finished cabinets to add warmth and texture, set beautifully between the soft, whitewashed walls and the deep, black-tinted, textured glass on the tall cabinetry doors. As a focal point, the kitchen island is wrapped in stunning Arabescato marble, featuring unique black marbling, yet with soft, curved edges. The balance of tones makes the rich textures of the materials—wood, stone, and glass —the key attraction in the designer kitchen.

A great example of reeded glass in a bespoke kitchen can be found in our Frome Kitchen in Somerset. We combined it with red-tinted walnut in the cabinetry and brass. The design for the kitchen was inspired by mid-century furniture, Scandinavian design and the property’s architecture. Our design team used reeded glass along the top of the large-scale wall cabinetry at one end of the sizable kitchen and above the counter, where we surrounded it in brass for contrast.

We chose fluted glass for a super modern Victorian Townhouse Kitchen in Devon. The Scandinavian kitchen featured American oak veneer cabinets to complement the straight lines in the parquet floor. We installed textured glass panels within the wall cabinets and framed them in brass. We didn’t want to hide all our clients’ beautiful collection of objets d’art and design pieces, so the reeded glass doors were placed at intervals to achieve a timeless finish.
