The next appliance in our ‘Technology in the Kitchen’ series is a firm Papilio favourite: The Quooker Tap. Created in 1989 in the Netherlands, this tap is something we like to integrate in most of our kitchen designs due to the ease and efficiency of the product and we’ve heard nothing but praise for it so far!
If you don’t know much about the Quooker, it’s a tap that can immediately dispense hot water cutting out the need for a kettle and making cooking quicker. Depending on the model you opt for, the tap can also dispense warm and cold filtered water straight into your glass and all in one streamlined, space-saving tap – perfect for the more minimal and sleek look in the kitchen.

One of the immediate questions we’re often asked is how sustainable the taps are and actually this is a great way to make savings on your energy bill. With immediate hot water you’re not wasting any time running the tap and of course you only ever end up using exactly how much water you need. If you’re making a lot of cups of tea in a day you’re sure to see a saving on your energy bill and there’s no waiting around for the kettle to boil. Each Quooker tap has a patented high-vacuum insulation which makes the standby usage around 3p a day. This vacuum minimises heat loss when left on standby but you can also turn it off overnight to save a little more.
If you’re worried about children in the kitchen don’t fret as all the models have a child proof handle to avoid any accidents and the insulated sides ensure that the tap isn’t hot to touch when in use. The Dutch kitchen technology brand has thought of everything and this is why the taps are a pleasure to use and something that always pleases Papilio clients.
Obviously the upfront cost is substantially more than that of a kettle but for ease and design in the kitchen there really isn’t anything comparable and the Quooker can help make entertaining as well as day-to-day life a breeze. There are eight tap designs and three finishes to choose from which is where we can step in with consultation to help you choose the right one for both your kitchen and you.
