On two recent kitchen projects, much-loved family dogs have been a consideration in our design process. As part of both major full-design projects, we were asked to create specific spaces for their canines.
In a 17th Century Grade 2 listed Cotswolds Manor house, we created a bespoke dog washing station as part of a major kitchen design and re-build. In keeping with the Georgian style of the home, incorporating the period features such as inglenook and stone fireplaces, mullion windows, exposed timbers, flagstone floors, we designed client-specific features along with a bespoke island. The feature island comprised a marble surface with hand-turned walnut leg detail with enough space to seat four informally. The dog shower/sink was also finished with the signature walnut as part of the newly redesigned utility area, which offered functionality and style.
In Somerset, we designed a contemporary Scandinavian style kitchen and breakfast room as part of the complete renovation of an impressive Grade 1 listed Georgian Manor house near Bristol in southwest England. Drawing influences from the original Georgian features but focusing on modern lines and fuss-free finish, Papilio’s Creative Director, Stephen Garland, worked closely with both the client and architect on-site. Oak veneers took centre stage across the cabinetry, worktops and shelving units. As part of the client’s request, we integrated dog bowls into the main unit of the Georgian Manor kitchen.
