Bespoke luxury kitchens are more than just a place to prepare meals. They can reflect your style and taste and become truly unique. They can be the designer’s vision or incorporate yours to your exact specifications. But what if you have existing furniture or certain architectural features that you wish them to include in the design? Ensure you engage with a designer who listens.
At Papilio, we have been designing, building and installing luxury, handmade kitchens for over twenty years. Our hand-crafted designer kitchens are built using traditional techniques, and we work closely with our clients to ensure that their every need and want, no matter how unique, is met. Our bespoke kitchens are expertly considered to fit perfectly with your home and are tailored to suit your lifestyle and personality.
If you’re about to commission a new bespoke kitchen but would like to incorporate certain aspects, ensure that whoever you select has extensive experience, vision, and attention to detail. Personalising a new designer kitchen takes skill and vision.
Over the years, several specific kitchen projects have required critical thinking, vision, and skill. Here are two of our most notable projects.
The Mid-Century Inspired Kitchen in Somerset

Our client, located in the heart of Somerset, close to the market town of Bath, connected two dwellings to create one sizable space for their new kitchen. We were asked to create a new designer kitchen inspired by the lavish proportions, the client’s love of mid-century design and some of their existing furniture. Our design included two kitchen islands, a living space and a dining area. Our team personalised one of the kitchen islands by utilising the client’s much-loved curved, glazed antique cabinet. Constructed in teak, this piece of furniture had a wonderful rich red hue, which we pulled into other areas of the design. We used the antique cabinet as a frontage for one of the islands, constructing around the piece, matching the tone and glazing detail. This island was topped with marble for the countertop and cleverly housed a sunken Bora Pro hob and a 90cm Miele oven on one side and seating ‘bar style’ on the other.
A Kitchen in Bath

In a grand Victorian villa in Bath, Somerset, we designed a handmade kitchen for the fifth-generation family owners. Two rooms were turned into one to create a wonderfully light, open, sizable kitchen space. We designed a kitchen that befits and respects the home’s grandeur, keeping certain features, including an original glazed brick chimney breast. We incorporated a drinks bar and space to sit and perch when entertaining within the chimney breast. The back of the bar was finished in an ‘antiqued glass’ with a Carrara marble countertop and a Miele wine fridge. Overhead, a task lighting system and undershelf glass rack were conceived to hang martini and champagne glasses elegantly.
