The refrigerator is an essential appliance in any kitchen but can also be a focal point in a designer kitchen. The humble fridge is not just about keeping your food cold anymore; it’s a lifestyle choice. If you’re looking for the latest refrigeration innovation for your bespoke kitchen, there are a few things to consider.
When consulting with a bespoke kitchen designer like Papilio, one of the first things you’ll need to decide is what style of fridge you’d like. Do you want a sleek, modern refrigerator that will blend in with your cabinets? Or do you want something more eye-catching? Are you looking for an elegant stainless-steel appliance or one with glass doors? Do you want the latest in refrigeration technology? And would you prefer it fully integrated into the cabinetry?
There are many options, but we can advise. We only work with the best brands, including Miele, Fisher and Paykel, Sub-Zero & Wolf, Gaggenau and BORA. We can suggest the ideal solution from fridges to freezers, cooling cabinets, wine fridges, and refrigeration drawers.

Once you’ve chosen a style, you must think about features. And there are many attributes to consider. French doors are popular for designer kitchens because they look sleek and modern. They also make it easy to access all of your food. Counter-depth refrigerators are designed to fit flush with your cabinets, which gives your kitchen a more streamlined look. Refrigeration drawers are accessed from above, making it easier to grab, find, and organise items. They are also installed flush into cabinetry for a more seamless look.

We are rather excited about BORA’s latest products to be released in Spring 2024. Their new refrigeration systems include the BORA Cool, BORA Cool Combi and BORA Freeze. The BORA Cool fridge will be a must-have for any new designer kitchen. The intelligent, well-organised food refrigerators will come with two zones with the BORA Fresh Zero system, which has temperatures close to 0 Celsius and humidity regulation so food can be stored for an optimum period.

For our Frome Kitchen in Somerset, we designed a stunning mid-century-inspired kitchen for a busy family. The bespoke kitchen featured a tall wall of cabinets with an integrated Miele fridge. We skillfully combined the latest appliances, which included a pantry cabinet, two obsidian black Miele ovens and plenty of storage beneath opposite the Bora Pro Hob, within the handmade red-tinted walnut cabinetry.
We also designed a bespoke kitchen in a grand 17th Century Grade II listed stone manor house for our Cotswold Manor House Kitchen. Working with the original period features, inglenook and stone fireplaces, mullion windows, exposed timbers, flagstone floors and wooden panelled window seats, we wanted to respect the property’s heritage. We chose a Sub-Zero & Wolf fridge freezer with our client, which we encased in a stunning bespoke hand-antiqued walnut shroud and brass bar handles.

For The Bath Kitchen project in the heart of rural Somerset, we designed a sizable contemporary mission-style kitchen in a grand old rectory dating back to the 19th century. The owner had impeccable taste, so our bespoke kitchen concept needed to befit the designer kitchen label. At the core of this project, we designed classic cabinetry painted in dark hues so that the architectural perfection of the cabinets would highlight their quality. In contrast, it was decided to incorporate a towering Gaggenau fridge and freezer to give the kitchen a distinct feel of stature. To complement the sturdiness of the appliance, we broadened the corner posts, rails and frame details to maximise continuity.
There are several refrigeration choices for a designer kitchen, and we love nothing more than discussing the options with potential clients. We have been creating designer kitchens for over twenty years, so we have an excellent grasp of the latest technology and the best brands to work with.
