The Georgian Manor House Kitchen
A bespoke, handmade oak kitchen in rural Somerset
Papilio have designed a contemporary Scandinavian style kitchen and breakfast room, following the latest trend of “The New Natural” (phrase coined by Elle Decoration), as part of the complete renovation of this impressive Grade I listed Georgian manor house within proximity to Bristol in South West England.
The Brief
Drawing influences from the original Georgian features, Papilio’s Creative Director, Stephen Garland, worked closely with both the client and architect on-site to create a contemporary Scandinavian space in line with the restrictions accompanying the listed building status.
The Design
Crisp clean lines and texture are at the forefront of the design, with Oak veneers taking centre stage across the cabinetry, worktops and open shelving units, all custom-made by local craftsmen. Designed to stand out, the space features discreet handle details and provides ample opportunity to display the client’s distinct chinaware and objet d’art.
Appliances & Seamless Integration
Adding to the warm and welcoming nature of the kitchen, the sink run is finished in an opulent Calacatta Oro marble, sourced direct from Italy and a unique Gooseneck regulator in antique brass by Waterworks completes the glamorous wash area.
The 5-door Aga range cooker with an electric module including gas burners highlights the client’s love of cooking and the brand new addition to the Miele dishwasher range ‘Knock 2 Open’ allows for the discreet handle detail in this bespoke kitchen to continue uninterrupted through the design.
Features and Functionality
As requested by the slightly taller client, the worksurfaces, plinths and cooker have been set at an above average level, and other additional details such as recessed pet food bowls in the lower section of an open cabinet emphasise the bespoke nature of Papilio’s work and design process.
Lastly, the addition of the breakfast bar and built-in seating adds an element of comfort while offering the client and their family a space to socialise over breakfast or with drinks in the evening
