The Frome Kitchen

The design for the kitchen was inspired by mid-century furniture, Scandinavian design and the architecture of the property with its clear arts and crafts detailing.

Its hard to believe that the original kitchen for this splendid Edwardian Manor house that the smallest room of the property, but that was very much commonplace until more recent years. Now given the full Papilio overhaul the kitchen has been relocated into what was the day room and has the added benefit of leading directly out into the garden. To modernise the entire space the wall connecting to the previous drawing room was also knocked through and converted into the dining room, providing a sensational open plan kitchen dining space.

The Kitchen Island

The first thing you notice upon walking into the kitchen is the fluting detail on the side of the island, this key feature drawn from the newel post of the incredible winding staircase that runs up through the centre of the property. The substrate of the fluted side panels is a double thickness sheet of Valcromat custom made by a water jet.

The worksurface on the island is one of Papilios favourite materials made from recycled paper and resin, which gives a phenomenally hardwearing surface that patinas over time resulting in a leather like finish. Sunken into this worksurface is the ultimate cook tool, the Bora Pro induction hob with built in extraction. The island is finished with a solid Brass trim which will be left to patia along with the brass section counter sunk to the rear of the handle cut out. A truly unique kitchen island both functional and beautiful.

The Kitchen Cabinets

The perimeter cabinets again draw influence from the architecture of the property, the red tint applied to the walnut imitates the red wood through the property, but predominantly echos back to the handrail that winds with through the staircase in the entrance hall. The cabinets were designed to have drawers throughout to allow easy access to contents.

The opposite wall of tall cabinets draws the eye to the amazing architectural mouldings on the ceiling. This wall of cabinets is also the heart of the kitchen, integrated Miele fridge, pantry cabinet and 2 obsidian black Miele ovens with plenty of storage beneath opposite the Bora Pro Hob, cater for even the most discerning chefs needs.

Kitchen Features

The Frome kitchen also features a sink under both windows separating a dedicated washing up space from a drinks area, which features Zips Boiling, sparkling and chilled water tap with tea, coffee, glasses and mugs all store in brass trimmed cabinet above. The worktop is deliberately contrasting to the solid black of the island, a decadent but simple Carrara marble sits proudly on the walnut cabinets.
