The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen

Every detail, every element of this kitchen is meticulously crafted

The Papilio Bespoke Kitchens team is not just excited, but truly passionate about working on this exciting new bespoke kitchen design in the French Alps. Every detail, every element of this kitchen is meticulously crafted, reflecting our commitment to quality and luxury.

The Property

Perched at a high altitude amidst the breathtaking beauty of the French Alps, we conceived a stunning alpine ski chalet kitchen in a barn conversion, transforming the space. Our client envisioned a functional yet modern kitchen that pays homage to the barn’s rustic origins. The wooden beams and windows, high ceilings, and spectacular natural vistas inspired us to create a luxurious yet honest kitchen with stunning feature pieces and state-of-the-art appliances.

Appliances & Seamless Integration

Behind the bespoke kitchen island, the rear wall is finished in black Fenix. Deliberately understated, it recedes visually, allowing the island to take centre stage. Integrated into this wall is a Fisher and Paykel fridge-freezer offering generous internal space, a discreet dishwasher, and two Miele ovens seamlessly built into the cabinetry.

The Kitchen Island

With the architecture of this unique property in mind, we wanted to create a kitchen feature to take centre stage in the space. The kitchen island was conceived to balance the high ceilings and marry tradition with modernity. The kitchen island was meticulously crafted from a single plank of oak, with the island’s front showcasing our signature finger joint details and resin infills, accentuating the wood’s innate beauty. The kitchen island, perched on a powder-coated steel frame, floats, creating an airy, spacious feel corresponding to the spectacular views outside. The island’s work surface is hewn from rift-sawn oak with an oiled finish and boasts a sleek, a testament to the skill of Papilio’s cabinet makers. Appliances include a minimalist Bora hob and a 90cm Miele oven nestled beneath the hob, ready to cater to informal après ski dinner parties and drinks with friends. The rear of the island features open shelving, which provides a practical touch and easy access to kitchen accessories.

The Bespoke Kitchen Cabinets

Our team finished the perimeter cabinets in complementary rustic timber to complement the wooden beams and window frames. A cosy window seat was designed for socialising and enjoying the spectacular views of the French Alps, with convenient storage below. A Fisher & Paykel multi-temperature cooler drawer was chosen and strategically placed at the end of this run for easy access to daily provisions

A Functional Kitchen

The main fridge and freezer are discreetly tucked away in the utility room off the kitchen. The work surface, a masterpiece fabricated in-house from 12mm diamond black Richlite, offers a minimal contemporary look and practical benefits, which include durability and cleanliness. In striking contrast, we selected a black granite sink and a stunning Radomonte Kato single-lever mixer tap by Studio Ore, adding a touch of elegance to the kitchen.
