The Richlite Kitchen
The lavish proportions of this large country manor house provided the client with ample space for Papilio’s latest contemporary kitchen design.
The large room was segmented, which enabled the provision of the large central island, walk in pantry, boot room and scullery. All divided with on-trend ‘crittal’ style glazed panels.
The Bespoke Kitchen Island
Central to the design was a sensational island. More of a sculpture than a piece of furniture, it was cut by hand from a single section of oak, allowing the grain to naturally weave its way along the entire length. Exposed finger joint detail highlights the skill of the Papilio team. Naturally occurring cracks in the timber have been filled with resin and held firm with hand-cut brass ties, to further celebrate this natural façade.
The work surface itself is made from a single sheet of Richlite, with a 3mm profile. This refined detail has been cut with such precision; only master cabinet makers can achieve this precision. To complete the look were cascading oak side panels, each timber deliberately selected due to the imperfections, which are again resin filled. The finishing touch is Bora’s flagship ‘Pro’ hob, recessed to fit flush within the Richlite worktop.
Appliances & Seamless Integration
Beyond the island sit a pair of bespoke black limestone sinks in a black limestone worktop, complete with visible fossils that date back millions of years. A pair of brass taps by Studio Ore Design, and bespoke antiqued brass handles compliment the dark stone and ‘diamond black’ Richlite cabinet doors. Further along, the cabinet run, sits a single Everhot oven, the perfect tool for a roast dinner, neatly set away from the more active parts of the kitchen.
Features and Storage
Along the wall adjacent to the island, tall perimeter cabinetry, comprised of ‘leathered’ Richlite offer a subtle beauty in its own right. It provides a wonderfully rich back-drop to the sculptural island. At the centre of these cabinets pocket doors open out to reveal a double larder cupboard with additional workspace including a boiling water tap by Zip and small prep sink.
Within the dark façade of this run, internal cabinetry is comprised of the same solid oak timber side panels with resin infills that clad the island end panels, Richlite back panel and worktop, with a back lit task light. This run also houses a sizeable American fridge freezer, ovens by Miele and a deceivingly large pantry.
