The Contemporary Kitchen, Somerset
Nestled into the Somerset countryside is a truly remarkable modernist property design and built by Bob and Tim Organ.
We were honoured with the privilege of designing a kitchen to compliment this architectural gem. The entire south facing elevation of the property is glazed allowing for natural light to flood into the kitchen area.
The Brief
Paired back and honest was the design brief. We selected a material called Fenix essentially a laminate for the cupboard fronts, laminate being the material of choice for kitchens during the 70s, but the Fenix a modern twist as it is scratch proof. Another appealing feature of Fenix is that it is completely Matte, which is beneficial in a space sdo full of natural light.
The Kitchen Island
Continuing in the 70s theme and staying honest and sustainable with the material selection we chose birch faced ply for the island furniture which was suspended within a metal framework to compliment the black aluminium window frames and accentuate the hexagonal terracotta floor tiles
Finishing Touches
The sink run worksurfaces, a bespoke fabrication in Stainless steel by Papilio including seamless sink and integrated splashback, also a material popular in the 70s. Finishing touches include bespoke folded metal handles ergonomically design by Papilio and a stunning single slab of Turkish Lilac Marble.
