At Papilio Bespoke Kitchens, we are very proud of two special kitchen projects we completed in 2024. The North London Kitchen and The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France couldn’t be any more different in style and brief. Yet the two bespoke kitchens demonstrate our style direction, exceptionally high standards and unique approach.
Our design team has envisaged designer kitchens for many years, and we approach each project with fresh thinking. We make our bespoke kitchens the traditional way, using hand-crafting techniques, but embrace innovation and technology to add a contemporary essence to our designer kitchens.
Here, we delve into the process, aesthetics, and solutions of two of our most recent kitchens.
The North London Kitchen

The North London Kitchen is a modern yet warm designer kitchen that elevates the home’s character and impressive architectural style. After the home’s renovation, our design embraced the architect’s original vision. We aimed to highlight key structural elements, like the expansive glazed windows in the dining area, which flood the space with natural light.
We opted for a minimalistic, nature-inspired colour palette and natural materials such as wood and marble to make the aesthetic pop. Our experienced cabinet makers made oak-finished cabinets, set beautifully between the soft, whitewashed walls and the deep, black-tinted glass on the appliances and walk-in pantry. The central focal point of the design is the impressive kitchen island wrapped in stunning Arbescato marble, with its soft, curved edges adding a touch of elegance. The kitchen design offered natural textures as points of interest, modern lines throughout, and harmony that feels modern yet timeless.
The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France

The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France demonstrates a bespoke kitchen design, where every detail is meticulously crafted, reflecting our commitment to quality and luxury. The handmade kitchen is also significantly inspired by the high-altitude vistas and the original barn, which experienced a conversion. Along with our client, we wanted to pay homage to the barn’s rustic origins, so we focussed on natural wood, high ceilings and the light through glazed windows. The centrepiece of the handmade kitchen was the bespoke island, which was meticulously crafted from a single plank of oak. Our cabinet makers created the island’s work surface from rift-sawn oak with an oiled finish, which boasts a sleek and textured finish.
In contrast to the island, we used an ultra-modern and highly sustainable Richlite for the parameter worksurfaces. Fabricated in-house from 12mm diamond black Richlite, it offers a minimal contemporary look and practical benefits. Our team thoroughly enjoyed working on The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France project because of the beautiful setting, which inspired every decision to marry high-quality natural and engineered materials to design a handmade kitchen with beauty and function in similitude.
