Today, the kitchen is no longer just a place to cook. It’s the heart of the home, a space for whipping up culinary delights, entertaining friends and loved ones, and even tackling homework or catching up on emails. But with all this activity, how can you ensure your kitchen is as functional as it is beautiful? The answer is a multi-functional handmade kitchen.
As a bespoke kitchen company, we often need to consider how adaptable our kitchens must be to changing spaces and diverse lifestyles before designing them. Functionality should take precedence in any bespoke kitchen design. There are numerous ways to create extra space, combine seating into furniture or ensure that the whole household is comfortable in the heart of the home. The beauty of a handmade kitchen is that it can function however you want without compromising your unique personality and lifestyle. When working with a skilled craftsperson, you can discuss your vision, ideas, materials, layout and distinctive features. The result? A kitchen that’s not just beautiful but ideally suited to how you cook, eat, and live.
Kitchens for Entertaining
We’re seeing more demand for kitchens with entertaining spaces. It’s not that the dining room is becoming redundant, but individuals want to spend more time catching up with loved ones in one space.
Our Clifton Kitchen project in Bristol is a perfect example of a multi-functioning kitchen designed for entertaining. Alongside the coffee/ breakfast station adorned with the finest American walnut, we created a bar finished in walnut and polished brass with double-thickness marble worktops and Papilio’s signature ice trough. Hidden behind the bar is wine storage, a wine fridge, a beer fridge, a glass washer, and a sink. The finishing touch in this luxury kitchen is the discrete lighting incorporated into the cabinetry.
Adaptable Kitchens
Bespoke kitchens need to be adaptable and fit into the unique lifestyle of the family that occupies it. Our Fulham Kitchen project in London is a perfect example of one family’s wish to have a contemporary kitchen that accommodates the kids as well as the grown-ups. The bespoke kitchen features a window bench, ideal for taking time for a book or coffee with a neighbour. We also designed a sitting room area with a slatted wooden wall for shelving and installed a mid-century sofa and chairs below it. Another addition to this multi-functional kitchen was an area for work or study, ideal for working from home or finishing homework while mum or dad cooked up a storm.
Special Features in a Kitchen
Multi-functional handmade kitchens can also include unique characteristics. Engaging the services of a bespoke kitchen designer can help you achieve more, adding value and tailor-made aspects.
For our Cotswolds Manor House Kitchen near Oxford, as part of a significant design of a luxury kitchen project, we designed a walk-in pantry with a Sub Zero wine store and ancillary storage, washing machine and dryer. Our client also specifically requested a space dedicated to their treasured canines. We conceived a dog shower/sink by the back door in the utility to ensure no more muddy paws on their ceramic tiled floor.
