Kitchen Design – Hand Painting

Here at Papilio we take great pride in designing and manufacturing bespoke kitchens that give our clients a huge sense of pride.  To achieve this we focus on details, one of the most important of these details is the finish.
There is an abundance of options for the finish and whilst we create some exceptional luxury designer kitchens with beautiful veneers and solid timbers the most common finish is painted.  To stay true to our ethos of producing kitchens that stand out for the crowd we go to extra lengths to ensure that our painted finishes are not only resilient and last the test of time, but also that they are finished with the same love and attention to detail as the cabinets beneath.
Primarily there 2 options for a painted finish being either sprayed or hand painted.  Both options require a highly skilled individuals to apply an even smooth coat of paint.  Both spraying and hand painting takes years to master so we have carefully selected our master painters to finish our luxury designer kitchens from the finest artisans in Somerset.
Choosing the colour for your kitchen can be a tough decision to make, fortunately we are on hand to help with this decision and have a library of colour options from a variety of well-known brands including Farrow Ball & Little Greene.  We also provide samples of colour options applied to timber which you can look at in the tranquillity of your home and examine in the kitchen to see how the light reflects during the day and night.
When you have chosen the colour for your bespoke kitchen firstly, we apply a primer, this is followed by up to 3 coats of your selected colour, this give the furniture extreme durability.  The final stage is for hand painting this can be applied in the workshop or on site.
The application of the paint is something that is very artistic, it is important that the brush strokes follow the direction of the grain, this help to highlight the grain of the timbers beneath and reinforces the handmade nature of all our kitchens.  The finish needs to be clean and even any dust particles in the atmosphere can ruin the finished effect, which is why we use custom made paint booths in the workshops which filter out any particles.  This is also why it is often necessary to apply the hand painted finish off site.
Another advantage of a hand painted finish in a luxury designer kitchen is that it is easy to touch up after the inevitable accidents happen. We can even re-paint the entire kitchen if you want to change to the latest colour trend.
