Our Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France project is a pleasant example of a bespoke kitchen in Europe, where materials, the property’s architecture, and provenance informed the design. Perched at a high altitude amidst the breathtaking vistas of the French Alps, we conceived a stunning alpine ski chalet kitchen in a barn conversion. Our client envisioned a functional yet modern kitchen that pays homage to the barn’s rustic origins. The wooden beams and windows, high ceilings, and spectacular natural vistas inspired us to create a luxurious yet natural kitchen with stunning feature pieces and state-of-the-art appliances. At the heart of the small kitchen stands a hand-built, bespoke kitchen island. Devised to balance the high ceilings and marry tradition with modernity, the kitchen island was meticulously crafted from a single oak plank. Featuring our signature finger joint details and resin infills, accentuating the wood’s innate beauty. The kitchen island, perched on a powder-coated steel frame, floats, creating an airy, spacious feel corresponding to the spectacular views outside. The island’s work surface is hewn from rift-sawn oak with an oiled finish and boasts a sleek, a testament to the skill of Papilio’s cabinet makers. Appliances include a minimalist Bora hob and a 90cm Miele oven nestled beneath it, ready to cater to informal après-ski dinner parties and drinks with friends. The rear of the island features open shelving, which provides a practical touch and easy access to kitchen accessories. Perimeter cabinets complement the rustic timber of the wooden beams and window frames. A cosy window seat was designed for socialising and enjoying the spectacular views of the French Alps, with convenient storage below.

Costs & Timelines
Papilio’s bespoke kitchens in Europe include a full, end-to-end process. The first consultation and the initial concept design are complementary. This is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and understand the brief. Our kitchens in Europe are subject to a pre-agreed logistics and budget discussion during the consultation and initial concept phase of the project.
After approval, manufacturing takes about eight weeks, followed by two weeks for installation and two more for bespoke worktops, depending on scale.

We certainly do. Our end-to-end bespoke kitchen design service includes consultation, design, build and installation. We have worked with our cabinetmakers, craftspeople and installers for years and trust them with our own kitchens.
Can you work with my builder or architect?
Absolutely. We often work with architects, builders, interior designers, and stylists at our clients' request. We believe in a collaborative approach to ensure our clients have the kitchen of their dreams.
Are your kitchens built in the UK?
All our kitchens are constructed in the UK. Even for our international clients. All our projects are designed in our studios in Frome and Bath, and your kitchen is manufactured and fully constructed there, including the pre-fitting. The kitchen is then deconstructed and installed in your home.
What is included in your bespoke kitchen service?
Our bespoke kitchen design service is all-inclusive. It includes consultation, design, build, and installation.
Do you have an aftercare service?
We will talk you through how to look after your new kitchen. Depending on the materials used, whether marble, oak, copper or engineered materials, we will advise on best practice.
Our kitchens are guaranteed for 10 years. If any cabinetry we craft fails, subject to fair wear and tear, we will repair or replace the faulty item. This guarantee covers any doors, cupboards, shelves, or drawers we build.
