Five Kitchen Design Trends for 2016

We’re already nearly half way through 2016 and from the projects we’ve been working on and the others we’ve seen around in magazines, we’re already predicting the kitchen design trends for the latter part of the year. With some exciting projects coming up for us, here’s what we’ve encountered so far as well as some of the trends we hope to incorporate in future projects.

Open Plan

Open plan kitchens don’t seem to be going anywhere any time soon. With more and more homeowners looking to entertain in their own home, an integrated kitchen and living space is one of our most sought after requests. Beautiful countryside views often encourage this layout even further, why shut out the stunning scenery when you can help bring the outside in? We love to make the kitchen the heart of the home so by adding places to relax and socialise in an open plan environment you can really transform your space depending on your needs at the time.

Grey

It may be down to Kate Watson Smyth’s recently launched ‘Shades of Grey’ but this colour in the kitchen has been hugely popular in the kitchen design world. We’ve used different shades in both The Pantry Kitchen and the The Baker’s Kitchen while incorporating it via different textures in the flooring and work surfaces used in The Marble Kitchen. You can really add homeliness to a space with grey or add some extra drama – the possibilities are endless and we can tell you what will work for what you’d like to achieve with your space.

Smart Technology

Of course technology is always going to be a trend that we push in our own kitchens but this is confirmation that we are specialising in the right area and we’re so glad more people would like to incorporate the latest examples of modern appliances in their own homes. We’re seeing more interest in integrated music and lighting that can all be controlled via one central hub as well as a call for iPads installed for recipes and work surfaces with integrated mobile phone charging. All of these things can make your life easier so it’s great to get on board with what’s happening now.

Metallics

Copper, brass and gold finishes are going to remain a big deal in the latter part of the year with an increased amount of splashbacks and accessories all featuring metallic hues. People are starting to get a little braver with the concept and rather than just adding metallic details such as pendant lighting we’re likely to be seeing more in the way of work surfaces and panelling to create an industrial look. We’d love to push this trend so get in touch for a free consultation if it’s something you’re lusting after for your own home.

Cabinet and Island lighting

Lighting under cabinetry and counters is an easy way to change the atmosphere of a room and add a futuristic feel which is why we’ve seen a lot of our clients requesting it or loving the idea when we suggest it. Concealed LED’s can be placed under the worktops to transform a kitchen into an entertaining space and add a pop of colour with some neon accents as you can see in The Chefs Kitchen. It’s an easy way to illuminate a room and add a little bit of contrast to the existing lighting features, always a crowd pleaser!
