As you might be aware by now, our office and workshop is based in Frome–a lovely historic town in Eastern Somerset–a great place to call home for Papilio. The town is buzzing and vibrant with plenty of creatives and has been crowned the best town in the UK at the 2016 Urbanism Awards, and tipped as on of the ‘Best Places to Live in Britain’ by The Times. As well as a very good market, Frome also offers so brilliant independent shops which we thought we’d bring to you today.
Kushi Clothing
Kushi is an independent menswear store which prides itself on quality, necessity and love of design. They recently had a revamp, after ten years of running, meaning they look very different but better in our opinion – so many congratulations on the ten years! The store stocks lots of independent brands which you might struggle to find elsewhere but also staple classics from the likes of Levi’s and Carhartt WIP.

Resident Store
Resident Store is a new opening in Frome. Having only opened in April, it’s one of our new favourite destinations for homewares and accessories – expect to see some items in a shoot soon! The store sells a great collection of homewares, accessories and grooming products, all carefully selected by xxxxx. We love the fact that we can access designer makers we wouldn’t normally come across and we’ll be stocking up on their Ocelot chocolate for the foreseeable future.

Covers Vinyl
With Matt having used to be a DJ, it was great to see independent record store, Covers Vinyl, open up in February. We’re quite versatile on the music front but it’s great to pop in every now and then to have a browse through the collections and all that artwork provides a great source of colour inspiration!

Assembly
With Catherine Hill being quite the hotspot for artisan shops, Assembly is one of our favourites housing a fine selection of menswear and homeware objects in a very stylish setting. Owner Anthony Hick is super friendly and great to chat to about all things Frome and the selection of products is sure to keep you coming back for more.

SEED
Seed is in Central Frome but not on Catherine Hill or the main road of shops, meaning its a slightly hidden gem that we love to visit. With a large collection of homeware and accessories, the shop was established to support and nurture British artists – just what we like to see. This is a great place to pop into and buy gifts as there’s a little something for everyone and the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.
