Featuring marble in luxury kitchens is probably the epitome of opulence. But it’s also a sign of a fondness for history and an appreciation of quality. Marble is revered for its distinctive veining and elegant aesthetic and became popular for worktops in luxury kitchens in the early 1920s. However, it has also been a construction staple in some parts of the world for over 2000 years.
Why Choose Marble for Your Kitchen?
Marble has been a popular choice in high-end interior design because of its timeless beauty and durability. It makes it an ideal material for creating a stunning and sophisticated kitchen. Its unique aesthetics are undoubtedly its biggest draw. When commissioning a reputable bespoke kitchen designer, they will be able to source the best authentic marble for your dream kitchen, so it pays to research them thoroughly.
Marble is highly durable even though it is a delicate stone. It can withstand daily wear and tear with proper care. Its heat resistance makes it an ideal choice for countertops and backsplashes. And without a doubt, the classic natural material will never go out of style.
Caring for Your Marble Kitchen
Following a few simple care tips is important to keep your marble kitchen looking its best. As bespoke kitchen designers, we always advise cleaning any spills promptly and avoiding direct contact with acidic substances like lemon juice and vinegar, which will help maintain the marble’s beauty.
At Papilio Bespoke Kitchens, we are big fans of incorporating marble into our designs, so here are three of our favourite luxury kitchens featuring the remarkable natural material.
The North London Kitchen

The North London Kitchen is housed in an impressive property that underwent an extensive renovation. We were thrilled to be chosen to design this space, creating a functional and visually striking kitchen. Our design thoughtfully highlights key structural elements like the expansive glazed windows in the dining area and high ceilings.
We selected a minimalistic, nature-inspired colour palette to design oak-finished cabinets and deep black-tinted glass for the appliances and tall pantry. The central focal point in our bespoke kitchen design is the magnificent island wrapped in the finest Arbescato marble, with soft, curved edges adding a touch of elegance. We also used marble for the tall splashbacks on the wall counter and sink areas with a floating shelf above. Additionally, marble framed the entrance to the pantry to ensure continuous flow. The marble’s unique patterns beautifully set off the light walls and wooden design features.
The Marble Kitchen

We designed The Marble Kitchen for our client in their Devonshire farmhouse. Having grown up with an AGA, our client was keen for this to be the focal point of the space, conjuring up a sense of nostalgia and epitomising the centre of their family home. However, we also designed a central kitchen island unit to create a divide between socialising and cooking. The contemporary sleek lines of the handleless design against the Arabesque marble surface set off the styling throughout, and we used white DuPont™ Corian® adjacent surfaces to provide a practical preparation surface while complementing and emphasising the timeless beauty of the marble island.
The Fulham Kitchen

The Fulham Kitchen in London featured an open-plan space which we designed for multi-functional use. The modern kitchen was conceived to be fun yet functional, calming and sophisticated for the young family.
The design incorporated a beautiful kitchen island for cooking, eating and storage. We sourced extremely rare Grey Grigio di Luna Marble with a wonderful iridescent surface dating back 3 million years for the worktop. We paired the marble with Francesca’s Paints’ eco-friendly muted grey/blue paint on the cabinet doors and slatted wooden panels under-counter to offer a modern twist.
Marble is incredibly versatile and works well with modern and traditional materials for contrast. It’s excellent with accent colours and adds a touch of class to luxury kitchens.
