Embracing Architectural Features in Bespoke Kitchen Design
As bespoke kitchen designers, we love nothing more than creative freedom. We always aim to work closely with our clients to perfect the kitchen design. Sometimes, we value working with our client’s architects, but at other times, we must embrace existing architectural features in their homes. We also love a challenge, and on numerous occasions, we’ve faced structural characteristics in the house that must be solved.
Working with existing architectural features when designing a bespoke kitchen can be very exciting. Our designs are unique every time, and so is our approach. Our handmade kitchens are as individual as our clients, and we enjoy finding solutions to incorporate aspects of the home that our clients love. Whether it be an existing fireplace, an original floor, ceiling beams, an alcove or windows, we create distinctive bespoke kitchens that embrace the heart of the space.
Here are three examples of how we welcomed existing architectural features in our handmade kitchens.
The North London Kitchen

The North London Kitchen is our latest project in an impressive North London property that recently underwent an extensive renovation. Our design centred on the architect’s original vision, thoughtfully highlighting key structural elements of the expansive glazed windows in the dining area. These windows flood the space with natural light, which we further enhanced by aligning the kitchen layout with the roof light to maximise illumination. Alongside the impressive, glazed windows, we were bold with our use of materials. With a nature-inspired colour palette, we chose stunning Arbescato marble with curved edges for the bespoke kitchen island, worktops, splashback shelving and pantry arch. Matching oak-finished cabinets add warmth and texture, set beautifully between the soft, whitewashed walls and the deep, black-tinted glass on the appliances and tall pantry.
The Rectory Kitchen in Bath

The Rectory Kitchen in Bath is another handmade kitchen that embraces architectural features in its bespoke design. Designed in collaboration with Simon Moray Jones architects, a large, glazed wall and ceiling lantern offers a fresh and airy shell for the open-plan kitchen and dining space—the perfect space for this sociable family. The exceptional architectural design allowed the beautiful countryside views to become the room’s focal point. We carefully positioned workstations and appliances to continually bring the outside in while providing a practical space for the family to cook and entertain.
The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France

The Alpine Ski Chalet Kitchen in France is another recent project that embraces the home’s architectural features. Perched at a high altitude amidst the breathtaking beauty of the French Alps, we conceived a stunning kitchen in a barn conversion, transforming the space. Our client imagined a functional yet modern kitchen that pays homage to the barn’s rustic origins. The wooden beams and windows, high ceilings, and spectacular natural vistas inspired us to create a luxurious yet authentic kitchen with stunning feature pieces, including a bespoke kitchen island. The drawer fronts were crafted from a single oak plank, so the grain flowed from end to end. The design pays tribute to the wooden beams and windows in the chalet. It would have been criminal not to embrace the property’s architectural features, and we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge.
