Kitchen floors are an aspect of a completely bespoke kitchen design that cannot be overlooked. So don’t let kitchen flooring become a second thought or ignore it completely.
Kitchen flooring is a key consideration when creating handmade kitchens because it is easier to create a kitchen to work with an existing floor than to design a floor to work with a kitchen after it has been designed. At Papilio Bespoke Kitchens, we always make kitchen flooring a top priority before we even begin putting pen to paper in our bespoke kitchens. We work closely with our clients and include the flooring in our 3D models so that they can see how their handmade kitchen will look.
The choice of kitchen flooring can make a difference in the overall feel of a finished kitchen. We advise anyone considering a new bespoke kitchen to contemplate the options. If you are lucky enough to already have beautiful flooring, like original flagstone or original ceramic tiles, perhaps use it as inspiration.
The tricky part to envisaging the perfect new kitchen floor is choosing from the many options available. The possibilities are almost endless, from ceramic tiles to parquet flooring, new flagstones to microcement, natural bamboo, and even vinyl kitchen flooring.

In our Richlite Kitchen project, we designed a contemporary kitchen using the latest innovation in materials, including Richlite for the worktops and microcement for the floors. Microcement is a brilliant material ideal for the residential market because it can coat floors, walls and pretty much any surface. It’s applied by coating layers over an existing material to give an exceptionally hard-wearing finish. Microcement can give a kitchen a contemporary feel, but it is also very resilient for everyday life.
Parquet flooring was a key feature in our Victorian Townhouse and The Bath Kitchen projects. Our design team was sensitive to the stunning wooden floors and worked to highlight the distinct design features.

In our Contemporary Kitchen project, we designed modernist style white cabinetry made from the innovative material Fenix, which worked beautifully in contrast with the retro-style hexagonal terracotta floor tiles. Both features worked harmoniously with the black aluminium window frames and Turkish Lilac Marble. The project is one of our favourites because the handmade kitchen juxtaposes new and old materials.
However you envisage your dream kitchen, please don’t ignore the floor! It could make the difference between a kitchen you like and a kitchen you adore for years to come.
