Contemporary Kitchens in Bath

At Papilio, we design unique kitchens with character. We have designed many contemporary kitchens in Bath and the Southwest and always work closely with our clients to create luxurious multi-functioning spaces for them to cook, eat and entertain.

Every kitchen we design is driven by our clients’ needs and inspired by their ideas. We use our expertise to transform their vision into a reality, drawing inspiration from their style and the property’s architecture to custom-build contemporary kitchens that stand the test of time.

Our design studio is based near Bath in one of the most beautiful counties in the region. We are privileged to work with a wide range of architectural properties, from Garde I and II listed to new builds, Georgian Townhouses, sprawling bungalows, old Rectories, and lofty apartments. For each home, we design bespoke kitchens that are truly individual, and our contemporary kitchens in Bath are some of our favourite projects because of the design process and architectural challenges.

The Rectory Kitchen near Bath

We created a stunning contemporary kitchen in Bath with a focal point of breathtaking views across a valley. The Rectory Kitchen was transformed, in collaboration with Simon Moray Jones architects, into a modern, functional space full of light with clean and contemporary cabinetry. With a significant proportion of ‘wall space’ replaced with floor-to-ceiling glass doors to bring the great outdoors in, we designed a sizable L-shaped kitchen island configuration to create maximum storage space and workflow and optimise the stunning views. The result was an airy, contemporary kitchen that changes with the seasons.

Another example of a memorable contemporary kitchen in Bath was in a period property in Somerset. The grand old rectory dates back to the 19th century, and the owners dreamed of a modern yet classic take on a Mission-style kitchen. Their brief outlined a requirement for flow between the kitchen and dining room. Natural light was of great importance with enlarged Crittall windows that framed the views of their outdoor pool and manicured garden. The Bath Kitchen was a sophisticated bespoke kitchen that was in keeping with the rest of the period property, focusing on entertaining, a hidden pantry and exceptional hand-made cabinetry that would stand the test of time.

Our most recent project, another contemporary kitchen in Bath, is The Georgian Townhouse Kitchen. Our client wanted a sophisticated yet modern kitchen that highlighted the original Grade I listed property features. Another integral aspect was to conceive and incorporate a much-needed dining space and a functional pantry with the dual purpose of working as an entertaining space. The solution came from the bespoke kitchen island and architectural ‘room dividing’ cabinetry which separated the kitchen from the pantry. Adding wheels to the kitchen island meant it could be moved around the space when entertaining. The overall earthy yet modern palette of walnut tones and earthy pinks, matched with patinaed brass and polished brass, custom-made cabinetry, and clever use of space, created a wonderfully sophisticated bespoke kitchen.
