Breakfast Nooks in Handmade Kitchens

The breakfast nook is more than just a table and chairs. It’s a space dedicated to quiet, restful moments where a cup of coffee is a ritual or where you steal moments with your family before a busy day.

Breakfast nooks in handmade kitchens can suit everything from a small corner to an integrated section of a kitchen island, or become a key design feature. They are informal and cosy, adorned with your favourite textiles, flowers, and crockery. By engaging a bespoke kitchen designer, your perfect breakfast nook can become a reality.

At Papilio Bespoke Kitchens, we have designed multiple handmade kitchens featuring breakfast nooks—each as unique as the family that commissioned it.

Here are some of our favourites to date.

The Georgian Manor House Kitchen

For our Georgian Manor House Kitchen, we designed a bespoke, handmade oak kitchen in rural Somerset. Drawing influence from the original Georgian manor house features and the homeowner’s love of contemporary Scandinavian design, we designed a kitchen with a breakfast nook. The concept boasts crisp, clean lines and texture. Oak veneers take centre stage across the cabinetry, worktops and open shelving units, all custom-made by our expert cabinet makers. The breakfast nook sits beneath a large sash window, offering peaceful garden views at mealtime. The built-in seating adds comfort while giving the client and their family a space to socialise over breakfast or with drinks in the evening.

The Georgian Townhouse Kitchen in Bath

The Georgian Townhouse Kitchen in Bath is a fine example of what a true handmade kitchen company can do. Papilio’s design team created a multi-functional kitchen island with built-in storage, a bar, and a dining area. More than a simple breakfast nook, the section features curved lines of the handmade banquette seating. The refined bespoke walnut dining table sits elegantly in the foreground, its soft rippled base a nod to the plump fluting of the leather banquette, offering comfort and style. The kitchen island helps to maximise the space and flow of a room, while offering the family a beautiful space for eating and chatting.

The Mid-Century-Inspired Kitchen in Somerset

For our Mid-Century-Inspired Kitchen in Somerset, we had a lot of space to work with after a major renovation uniting two dwellings connected by garages and outbuildings. The bespoke kitchen design boasts two kitchen islands, one for prep and one for entertaining and storage. At one end of the vast kitchen is a breakfast nook for peaceful relaxation, away from the hustle and bustle of the main kitchen. Soft chairs and a restored fireplace set the intention for sipping tea and nibbling on pastries on a lazy Saturday morning.

The beauty of a breakfast nook is that it can take on many forms and be entirely guided by your wishes. It can serve as the main dining area or a little corner for downtime. It should be comfortable and versatile, while giving you space just to be.
