Bespoke Kitchen Island Showcase

The kitchen island can be the perfect addition to a bespoke kitchen. The freestanding unit is accessible on all sides and can be large or small, square or rectangular or an entirely bespoke shape. Engaging the services of a specialist handmade kitchen designer/maker could create the perfect solution for your new luxury kitchen. The kitchen island can add practical work surfaces and storage but is also a great way to divide larger open-plan kitchens and incorporate sinks, cooktops, and built-in seating. They are versatile and purposeful and can be a spectacular piece of kitchen furniture in the right hands.

Bespoke kitchen islands are no longer just for cooking and meal prep. They are designed for various purposes, such as entertaining and working from home and are a central focal point in many kitchens. They are often designed to make a statement, with unique features such as waterfall countertops, oversized pendant lights, and custom cabinetry. Kitchen islands are increasingly equipped with innovative technology features, such as voice-activated controls or built-in appliances.

At Papilio Bespoke Kitchens, we have designed and custom-made many, each as unique as their owners. Here are examples of our handmade kitchen islands, which we are incredibly proud of, which showcase a tailored approach to innovative kitchen design.

Mid-Century-Inspired Kitchen in Somerset

Our Mid-Century-Inspired Kitchen in Somerset is a fine example of making an ample space more homely. We designed not one but two kitchen islands for the handmade kitchen. We utilised our client’s existing mid-century curved, glazed antique cabinet, constructed in teak, using its frontage and building a unit around the piece. This kitchen island was designated for cooking, so it cleverly houses a sunken Bora Pro hob and a 90cm Miele oven. The second kitchen island is geared towards food preparation and entertaining with a row of stools, perfect for good times with friends and family.

Georgian Townhouse Kitchen in Bath

For our Georgian Townhouse Kitchen in Bath, Somerset, we embraced the multi-functional approach and created a truly tailored kitchen island. We incorporated fluted leather banquette seating, offering much-needed dining space to the kitchen design, which matched a refined, custom-made walnut dining table. The luxurious yet multi-functional kitchen island is the perfect example of the capabilities of a bespoke kitchen design and how you can maximise the space and flow of a room.

Bespoke Georgian Manor Kitchen by Papilio Kitchens
Georgian Manor House Kitchen

We were challenged with the room width for our Georgian Manor House Kitchen in Somerset. The impressive Grade I listed manor house had ample proportions, but the narrowness of the central area needed thought and attention. We designed a narrow kitchen island to fit beautifully. It reflected the clean lines and textures of the oak veneers across the cabinetry, worktops and open shelving units, all custom-made by our craftspeople. For a contemporary edge, we hung the iconic In The Tube, 360° lighting by Dominique Perrault and Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost above the kitchen island to conceive a genuinely handmade kitchen that will withstand the test of time and style.
