The Marble Kitchen

A long narrow space mixing contemporary with modern classics

Working directly with the client, Matt Prall and Stephen Garland of Papilio offered their extensive interior knowledge to renovate this Devonshire farmhouse kitchen. Having grown up with an AGA, the client was keen for this to be the focal point of their living space, conjuring up a sense of nostalgia and epitomizing the centre of their family home. This fully bespoke kitchen provides a space to prepare, relax and socialise whilst maintaining the client’s traditional family values.

A central island unit was installed to allow for a divide between socialising and cooking. The contemporary sleek lines of the handleless design against the Arabesque marble surface compliment the styling throughout and the white DuPont™ Corian® adjacent surfaces provide a practical preparation surface, whist at the same time complementing and emphasising the timeless beauty of the marble island.

As the room was long and narrow a partition was created to conceal a large American style fridge freezer. Extra seating was also added to this area with storage space underneath, creating a charming yet functional area and allowing the client to spend time relaxing with a view across the stunning Devonshire countryside.

Using a Rako intelligent lighting system, concealed LEDs have been placed on the ceiling and under the island unit to transform the space at the touch of a button. Discrete spherical speakers, controlled by the installed entertainment centre, have added a further socialising element for when the family have guests to receive.
