Matt and Stephen - Papilio Kitchens

A look back at some of our favourite projects this year.

No doubt, it’s been a tough year. Many have had to overcome personal and business challenges and will be looking forward to a new year. While it might have felt like it at times, normal life didn’t totally stop and Papilio were called into action on some exceptional projects in 2020.

From handmade kitchens to incredible custom furniture, the life of a bespoke kitchen designer is an opportunity to fulfil a customer’s desires by capturing the essence of the design and turning it into reality. By marrying experience, talent, and an eye for what’s on-trend, we’ve delighted our clients and made ourselves proud of the work we’ve done this year.

It’s not all black and white

The term ‘minimal’ is often a starting place for a client’s vision. It can be a hard brief to execute but in this design, one of our favourites of 2020, we feel we’ve done it justice. Standing in the finished kitchen felt serene and connected. The island, made from single sheets of oak by our master cabinet makers, enveloped the black Richlite worktop. The fine details such as finger joints (rather than dovetail) and brass detailing added sublime notes of character.

Shaking things up

We’ve got a lot of love for the shaker style, and we brought it to bear in this contemporary design. The refined details offered a chance to reveal a sophisticated playfulness in a design that is confident in its identity. The luxury afforded by the miles of Carrara marble brings warmth and cohesion to the design with a breath of calm. Working on a project like this is a dream for a bespoke kitchen designer and we’re so happy with the result.

History in the making

When a property truly stands out, in this case, a modernist property built in the 1970s, you’ve got to find a design that meets the character. Bringing the 70s back to this property was a challenge here thanks to the previous decisions used in its modernisation. Starting from the foundation of honest materials, we were able to work with the architect to create a sublime space that brought back the character and made a sublime space that stood out.

It’s projects like the above that make handmade kitchens really stand out. The ability to get every tiny detail just right offers an opportunity to make the clients home, and our work, really shine.

We’re already looking forward to 2021 and the (design!) challenges it will bring. We’re already working hard on some of the projects for next year, but we’re still taking on projects. If you’ve got a project in mind that needs an exceptionally talented bespoke kitchen designer then we’d be thrilled to talk to you.

From handmade kitchens to bespoke furniture, we are Papilio are our work will transcend your expectations.
