A Designer’s Guide to Luxury Kitchen Sinks

The kitchen sink is an essential feature in any kitchen. It’s where you wash your dishes, prepare food, and even do some light cleaning. So, it’s important to choose a functional and stylish sink.

If you’re researching kitchen sinks for your luxury new kitchen, there are a few things you’ll want to keep in mind. First, consider the size of your kitchen. If you have a small kitchen, choose a compact sink that won’t take up too much space. If you have a larger kitchen, you have more options and can choose a bigger sink with more features.

Next, think about the finish of your sink. Stainless steel is popular and can look great in a luxury kitchen. Stainless steel is durable and easy to clean, and we always suggest going for the best quality available. Dorn Bracht manufactures kitchen sinks made of polished stainless steel that combine aesthetics, precision and functionality optimally, focusing on excellent drainage behaviour. GROHE sinks fit every kitchen style with various innovative, modern designs.

We chose bold stainless steel for our Scandinavian Kitchen project as part of the kitchen design. We incorporated it in the work surfaces to provide a robust, hygienic preparation surface which compliments and highlights the modern, Scandinavian look of the room.

We also chose stainless steel for the sink run worksurfaces in our Contemporary Kitchen in Somerset. The bespoke fabrication in stainless steel included a seamless sink, integrated splashback, finishing touches with bespoke folded metal handles, and a stunning single slab of Turkish lilac marble.

Of course, other options are available, such as granite, ceramic, limestone, and even copper. Copper sinks are a unique and stylish option for a luxury kitchen design. They’re durable, easy to clean, and they develop a beautiful patina over time. Some of the most popular copper sinks include the William Holland collection. The hand-crafted copper kitchen sinks are available in uncoated brushed copper, which will age and patina with use. They are hand-crafted using traditional artisan techniques and hand-finished to order.

We incorporated a copper sink in the coffee/breakfast station for our Clifton Kitchen project in Bristol. The cabinetry was made with some of the finest American walnut with a rich golden natural pattern, which we highlighted beautifully with strategically placed lighting and Italian Carrara marble with exquisite rich veining. The golden sink tied it all together with its golden sunny glow. The result was a stunning contemporary kitchen using the finest available materials.

Bespoke Richlite Kitchen by Papilio Kitchens
The Richlite Kitchen with two black limestone sinks

We also really enjoyed working with black limestone for our Richlite Kitchen project. We incorporated a pair of bespoke black limestone sinks in a black limestone worktop, complete with visible fossils that date back millions of years—contrasting the dramatic black with a pair of brass taps by Studio Ore Design and bespoke antiqued brass handles to compliment the dark stone and ‘diamond black’ Richlite cabinet doors. The contemporary kitchen was exactly what our client was dreaming of – dramatic, transformational, and timeless.

As an essential aspect of any new handmade kitchen, the kitchen sink needn’t be dull, lacklustre and simply functional. A kitchen sink can also be beautiful, exciting and unique. Speak to Papilio about your new kitchen design, and we will ensure that every aspect, including the kitchen sink, will be considered.
