2017 Kitchen Trend Report

With 2017 fully under way, we put together a kitchen trend report for the year along with a little help from some friends.
We’re not just about bespoke kitchen ideas though, the report is a culmination of the features that sell dream houses, the interior trends that are going to be big for 2017, the smart technology you need to have in your home and even the food you can expect to see in your fridge! From country kitchens to luxury, high-end kitchens, there really is a little something to suit everyone and we wouldn’t be Papilio if we didn’t give you tips on the appliances that we’re loving.
Created in partnership with SellingUp.com, Populus, Miele and Slow Food in the UK, the report features comment from a variety of leading experts from bloggers to designers and is the perfect research for any of you looking to invest in kitchen design or try out some of our own trend ideas.
Part of our research came from the people at SellingUp.com (http://www.sellingup.com/property-features-survey) who conducted an exclusive survey of 2000+ people with Populus, one of the UK’s leading market research firms, to examine which features buyers would actually want to find in their dream home and which they can live without.
From double glazed windows through to an AGA cooker, the results weren’t too much of a surprise but from the in-depth analysis of age ranges, you can truly see what your target market might be after and why exactly some features are so important to consider. While functional aspects remain priority, a high spec fully fitted chef’s kitchen is high on the list for rooms that homeowners would prefer to see completed.
The report also takes a look at the age ranges and gender of the responses for each feature so you can even make an informed decision on this basis. While the most popular age group in search of a high-end kitchen was the 35-44-year-old bracket (69% stated it was more desirable), it still maintained a high 66% in the 18-24-year-old bracket. It appears that we’re all looking for a high specification kitchen, and if money has been spent in this area sellers will likely see an increase in potential buyers.
Historically, the old-fashioned view that the kitchen is traditionally a female domain may have prevailed. But in recent years more and more men are equally at home doing the cooking – so were there any gender differences in terms of how desirable a high-spec kitchen would be? Hardly at all. Of the men asked, 65% said a chef’s kitchen made a property more desirable, compared with 66% of women.
